About the Author

Sally Jane Smith has visited thirty-four countries and lived on five continents.

In 2006, the bus on which she was travelling through Sri Lanka suffered a head-on collision, breaking both her body and her spirit. A decade on, she journeyed to Greece in a quest to recover her wanderlust – and proved it is possible for an out-of-shape, middle-aged woman on a budget, equipped only with her mother’s 1978 travel diary, to experience a life-changing adventure.

Sally is the author of Unpacking for Greece, which placed First in the 'Prose in English' category of the Greek-Australian Cultural League's 2024 Book Awards, and Repacking for Greece, which was shortlisted for a Society of Women Writers NSW award. Her creative non-fiction appears between book covers in Itchy Feet: Tales of Travel and Adventure, the Newcastle Short Story Award Anthology 2022 and Grieve: Stories and Poems of Grief and Loss published by the Hunter Writers' Centre. Her focus is on Greece, but she has also written of her travels in Albania, Peru, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Turkey, and about life in South Africa and Australia.
